Matthew Carrington is currently programme manager for the East London Green Grid having worked closely with Jamie Dean in the Design for London team over the last two years. He is currently leading on updating the ELGG Area Frameworks for the Lea Valley, Epping Forest and Roding Valley and Thames Chase, Beam and Ingrebourne. He also manages the Thames Gateway Parklands Programme funded by CLG.

His background involves more than twelve years experience of developing and managing the delivery of major urban regeneration projects and programmes across East London. He has been involved with a number of physical open space projects including Gillett square in Dalston, St John at Hackney Churchyard Gardens Hackney, Trinity Buoy Wharf and Bow Creek Ecology Park in Tower Hamlets. He is also employed by Groundwork London which is part of a major national environmental charity which specialises in working in disadvantaged neighbourhoods, using physical projects as a catalyst for change.

He has an excellent understanding of working with local authorities, coupled with complementary experience from positions in private, public and third sectors. He has often driven the establishment of multi sectorial partnerships to deliver major project ambitions in east London. He has a particular interest in establishing positive linkages between environmental and social/economic regeneration.

As a local resident of Hackney for some twenty years, he has a keen interest in history, architecture and open space and serves on a number of local groups which seek to support these themes.
