The London Low Carbon Project will showcase the very best ideas in sustainable design and construction and demonstrate that low carbon developments are technically and financially viable.

The site, owned by the London Development Agency (LDA), will consist of 230 housing units with significant affordable housing provision and a One Planet Living centre. Heat and power are to be produced through an on-site combined heat and power system (running on biomass/woodchip). The development is to achieve Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4 overall, and Level 6 (zero carbon) in relation to energy.

Design for London commissioned Adams and Sutherland with Arup to develop specific design guidance to inform an open competition for the selection of the LDA's development partner and consultant team. These consultants also prepared an energy strategy for the wider area, and energy brief for Gallions Park. This work established design principles and sustainable design codes for use across the Albert Basin.

The competition was won by Quintain Bioregional with Crest Nicholson, Southern Housing Group and Feilden Clegg Bradley Architects. Design for London has continued to support the development with regular design review sessions.
