Design for London is working with the London Borough of Bexley and other partners to regenerate this riverside town centre in south-east London.
The Erith Western Gateway development will create a new riverside community and provide a mix of at least 700 new homes, employment, retail and leisure uses and upgrades to the public realm. The core of the public realm project will be the redesign of the under-used Erith Riverside Gardens on the south bank of the Thames. The London Borough of Bexley is working in partnership with the Homes & Communities Agency (HCA) and their development partner Crest Nicholson to deliver this £100m project.
Design for London has worked with Bexley and other partners throughout the process - helping to draft the development brief, working up the issues and options report, setting design guidance and assisting in the selection process for a development partner. We also worked with design consultants EDAW on an urban design study commissioned by the borough, which is now being used to inform the proposed Erith Western Gateway masterplan. The HCA has also recently appointed Maccreanor Lavington architects as design champion for the development of the masterplan.
Design for London also assisted with the central government-funded Erith Town Centre Enhancement Project, of which an initial phase of high quality streetscape works was completed in 2007.
