We are working across London to provide ambitious improvements to the network of public spaces, from the doorstep to the street, parks and landscapes.

Within Meridian Square a series of Kiosks are proposed that will replace the existing ones and provide a new building that embraces the public realm. Design for London have funded an Architecture- Foundation managed international competition that attracted over 90 entrants from all continents.

The kiosks will serve as key venues for information, orientation and services before, during and after the 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic Games and will play a crucial role in the redevelopment of the area. Studio Octopi were selected from a shortlist of five entrants to deliver the project for the London Borough of Newham.

Studio Octopi’s proposal, constructed from cross-laminated timber will be quickly erected on site causing minimal disturbance to this heavily used plaza. Clad in black zinc, the structure provides a simple backdrop to the cluttered public realm and frames views towards the new Town Centre Link Steps whilst creating a direct link to the bus station from the railway/ underground interchange. The kiosks are expected to be complete Summer 2011.
