We are working across London to provide ambitious improvements to the network of public spaces, from the doorstep to the street, parks and landscapes.

This is a new riverside space sitting on the south bank of the River Thames between City Hall and Tower Bridge.

The GLA Architecture and Urbanism Unit (now part of Design for London) worked with the developers More London, the London Borough of Southwark and community partners to commission the designs for the Park, which were prepared by Gross Max landscape architects working with horticulturalist Piet Oudolf.

The Park was completed in 2007, providing a counterpoint to the harder landscape of the More London development. As the Park twists inland towards Tooley Street it becomes a more densely planted and intimate space. The Park opens up towards the river to accommodate large numbers of people and occasional events and to emphasise the magnificent views of the Tower of London and Tower Bridge.

The Park also includes wooden kiosks, designed by DSDHA, incorporating WCs and a cafe. The Park is managed by a not-for-profit management trust, which includes More London, the Greater London Authority and local community organisations.

Partners: More London, London Development Agency, Greater London Authority, London Borough of Southwark, the Pool of London Partnership and local community groups
