Advised by Design for London, the Mayor of London has set up a design panel for the Thames Gateway Bridge project, to advise on design matters and to ensure that design excellence is secured during procurement and construction.
The Mayor’s Design Panel, managed by Design for London, includes world-class experts in engineering, architectural and landscape design. Current members are:
• Michael Clarke (Chair), Design Champion for Thames Gateway Bridge at Transport for London
• Peter Bishop, Director of Design for London
• Professor Richard Burdett, Centennial Professor at the London School of Economics and Principal Design Advisor to the Olympic Delivery Authority.
• Sir Jack Zunz, former chairman of Arup
• Michel Desvigne, landscape architect and author
• Julia Barfield MBE, Founder Director of Marks Barfield Architects
• Malcolm Fletcher MBE, former Chairman of Halcrow
• Ian Ritchie CBE, Director of Ian Ritchie Architects
• Chris Wise, Founder of Expedition Engineering
The Panel will be joined by observers from the local planning authorities whose involvement will ensure that the bridge’s design maximises spatial social, economic and environmental benefits to the local community.
The status of the bridge is, at present, uncertain and is dependent on the re-opening of the public inquiry later in 2008.
