We are working across London to provide ambitious improvements to the network of public spaces, from the doorstep to the street, parks and landscapes.

Design for London is working closely with the London Borough of Croydon on plans to improve Croydon town centre. This includes working with the Borough and Transport for London to transform Wellesley Road from an urban motorway that cuts through Croydon into an integrated part of the town centre.

In 1998 the borough produced a Vision 2020 strategy for Croydon. This was re-examined by Alsop Architects who produced an aspirational 'Third City' plan in 2007. This vision is now being developed into an Area Action Plan.

The London Borough of Croydon, with Design for London and Transport for London, launched the Wellesley Road Design Competition in October 2008. Four design teams have been short listed: Hawkins Brown, OKRA Landscape Architects, Field Operations and Edward Cullinan Architects. The successful designer is due to be announced in July 2009.
