We are working across London to provide ambitious improvements to the network of public spaces, from the doorstep to the street, parks and landscapes.

Undoing the gyratory system at Aldgate (on the eastern edge of the City of London) will improve facilities for cyclists and pedestrians and allow for the creation of a new local park. Design for London is working with developers, the local authority and Transport for London on the design and delivery of these spaces. The revised layout and new park sit at the gateway to the High Street 2012 proposals.

The City of London is also considering the removal of the adjacent gyratory at St Botolph's, which will allow a further reallocation of road space for pedestrian use. These projects are being integrated through a Public Realm Strategy prepared by General Public Agency and Witherford Watson Mann.

Design for London is providing design coordination between the gyratory, a park and new building proposals in the area. We have conducted a number of design reviews, have supported the development of the Public Realm Strategy and are a project partner for High Street 2012. The London Development Agency is contributing funds to the development of designs.

The Aldgate gyratory was removed and two-way traffic reintroduced in September 2008. Work on the new park at Braham Street started in April 2009.
