We help to initiate and shape ideas that we believe can have a positive influence on London's evolution.
New MA in Spatial Planning and Urban Design

The East London Green Grid initiative will improve East London's provision of open space and provide a range of formal and informal recreational uses and landscapes, promoting healthy living and amplifying the public enjoyment of the outdoors. It will also help East London adapt to climate change by reducing flood risk and enhancing surface water management. The project aims are to create, improve, manage and maintain high quality green infrastructure for people and wildlife.

Design for London is working with a wide range of local and strategic partners to plan and deliver this rich network of open spaces, natural landscapes, river corridors and the connections between. We have developed supportive policy and spatial frameworks and are engaged in over 100 Green Grid projects across east London.

The East London Green Grid won the 2008 Landscape Institute's Presidents Medal and Strategic Landscape Project Award.

The Green Grid is the London component of DCLG’s Thames Gateway Parklands Programme and DEFRA’s 'Greening the Gateway' strategy.

Partners: East London Boroughs, Thames Gateway London Partnership, the Thames Gateway regeneration partnerships, Environment Agency, Natural England, Greater London Authority, London Development Agency, Department of Communities and Local Government’s (DCLG), Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA)
