New MA in Spatial Planning and Urban Design

The All London Green Grid (ALGG) approach provides a strategic framework for creating, improving, managing and maintaining high quality Green Infrastructure and promotes cycling and walking.

The Green Grid will create a network of interlinked, multi-functional and high quality open and green spaces that connect with town centres, public transport nodes, the countryside in the urban fringe, the Thames and major employment and residential areas.

The initiative aims to make the capital a more attractive, sustainable and prosperous city. The potential benefit to London’s economy is significant and can be achieved through a range of outputs that respond to climate change, promote walking, cycling and accessibility, reduce environmental risks to make more sustainable business locations and shape and support growth more generally.

The Green Grid will be a key framework for delivering the bold aims of these initiatives and facilitating the delivery of programmes and projects promoted by the boroughs and their partners. The project will promote cross boundary partnership on a local and regional level.

This approach has been extremely successful in accelerating delivery in East London through the East London Green Grid (ELGG). Design for London’s work on ALGG builds on this experience and is being developed from a broad base of partners and aspirations.

The draft Supplementary Planning Guidance is currently out for consultation until 27th January 2012. See the draft document here or for more information click here.
