Nine Elms/Vauxhall/Battersea is the largest remaining industrial area in central London, also providing the location for the New Covent Garden Market. Design for London, together with key stakeholders, are looking at the possibilities to create a new mixed use neighbourhood on the banks of the Thames, retaining employment uses but also introducing leisure and more residential uses into this well connected area.
There are already plans to transform the New Covent Garden Market, the only remaining wholesale food market in central London, creating new sites for redevelopment. Additionally, the area includes Battersea Power Station which has languished for many years after repeated attempts at redevelopment and which offers exciting opportunities for leisure uses in this landmark building.
Design for London will be working with its partners the London Development Agency, the Greater London Authority, Transport for London, the London Boroughs of Wandsworth and Lambeth and local landowners to bring about the successful change.
