Lewisham's Thames Gateway Growth Area can be described as a series of dense, well-served town centres linked by waterways and linear park networks, which are key components of the East London Green Grid. Railway viaducts as well as the Docklands Light Railway and a number of often congested roads intersect the areas and fracture the urban fabric. The area has substantial growth potential due to its proximity to Canary Wharf and excellent transport connections.
The London Development Agency (LDA) Land & Development team and Design for London have been working with the London Borough of Lewisham and Transport for London for a number of years to initiate area strategies and high quality developments.
Design for London is actively involved in public realm projects in New Cross Gate and Lewisham Town Centre, both being the product of joint masterplanning work with the Borough. We are providing advice on the Lewisham Gateway development and are working with the GLA Planning Decisions Unit on other strategic sites in the area including the former Greyhound stadium in Catford and Sainsbury's in New Cross Gate.
