We focus a lot of our resources on areas of London experiencing significant change. In these places we invest in long term collaboration to help shape great places.
Thames Water is extending their Sewage Treatment Works in East Beckton on to Beckton Meadows to build the Tideway Tunnel. The purpose is to construct a 6.8km (x7m diameter) long tunnel which will capture discharges from the combined sewer overflow at Abbey Mills Pumping Station. The tunnel will store and transfer these flows to Beckton Sewage Treatment Works for treatment. As a result 90 discharges a year will be prevented from entering the River Lee. Increased capacity is required (40%) at Beckton to treat additional flows from the tunnel and from growth within the catchment area.
Design for London is providing design advice to the GLA Planning Decisions Unit on this planning application.
