At the northern end of the Isle of Dogs, West India Quay Docklands Light Railway (DLR) station forms an entry into the Canary Wharf development. DLR and Design for London appointed landscape architects J & L Gibbons in 2005 to improve public space around the station and connections to the surrounding area.
Proposals include a new square under the station concourse, stronger links to Poplar, removal of clutter and the use of durable high-quality materials, enhanced lighting and public art.
The project is being reviewed as part of DLR's 3-car lengthening works in 2010 and in the context of the adjacent North Quay development and construction of a new Crossrail station nearby.
