Euston Circus, at the top end of Tottenham Court Road, is a pedestrian-unfriendly space, dominated by the Euston Road underpass. Design for London is working with partners to extend the platform over the underpass and create a new public square which will help reduce the severance caused by the road.

The aim is to create an improved environment for pedestrians, defined by trees and wider pavements. The possibility of small kiosks and exhibition space is being explored. This project is part of a wider programme to create more attractive and convenient crossings on Euston Road.

Farrells and Edco Design created the initial design concepts. Design for London is on the client team and will provide some funding towards the project.

The estimated cost of the scheme is between £8-10 million. Potential funding sources include Section 106 contributions from neighbouring developments, stakeholder contributions and the capitalisation of advertising revenues derived from the hoarding space at the underpass. Funding for additional feasibility work is currently being identified.
