Acton's Town Square, known locally as 'the Mount', has been reborn as a flexible space that provides a new focus for public life in Acton. Design for London was involved throughout the project, which was completed in November 2006.

The square was previously a badly defined, cluttered and unfriendly area. The re-designed space, by East architects, includes street furniture of the highest quality and seating created from natural stone matching the granite paving. The space has been animated with kiosks, cafes, markets and space for public events. To minimise clutter, walls, bollards, street signs, and planters are kept to a minimum, and lighting is fixed to buildings where possible.

Large semi-mature trees enhance the character of the church on the eastern side of the square. Consistent paving on the Uxbridge Road unites the square with this major road through west London.

Design for London worked with partners to prepare the brief, procure designers and oversee design development, as well as developing the delivery strategy and helping to access funds for implementation.
