Design for London and the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham launched a design competition for Barking's Abbey Green in June 2009. The aim is to generate a selection of exemplar designs for the regeneration of this space which is central to the local community.  This reinvigorated green space will link the River Roding to Barking Town Centre and the Gascoigne Estate, and forms part of the East London Green Grid.
