Public realm strategy for London
Study commissioned from Alan Baxter Associates to analyse London’s public realm, assess its condition, identify opportunities and establish overarching design criteria for its improvement.
Designing high density housing
Developing guidance to identify key factors for the delivery of high standards of design in high density developments.

Masterplanning framework for Lower Lea Valley, Royal Docks and Silvertown. The area is expected to absorb 25% of London’s anticipated growth between now and 2025.
Olympics park and legacy
Masterplanning and design, on behalf of the London Development Agency (LDA), for the Olympics park after the games are completed in 2012.

St Giles/Tottenham Court Road Underground
Detailed urban design exercise with Westminster and Camden to assess building heights, massing and public spaces around Charing Cross Road, St Giles High Street and New Oxford Street. Work to Tottenham Court Road underground including congestion relief and new entrances with design work by Stanton Williams and Gillespies.
London Riverside
Design strategies for the riverside areas of Barking, Dagenham and Havering.

Design proposals for new stations, public realm and bridges from John McAslan and Wilkinson Eyre.

Landscape proposals and tree planting east of Olympia.
Tottenham gyratory – change to two-way working
Redesign and landscaping proposals to remove present gyratory and return Broad Lane and Tottenham High Road to two way working.
Thames Gateway bridge and Cross River Park
Running the design panel and competition for the proposed new bridge linking Woolwich and Beckton and the proposed cross river park.
Crystal Palace park
Masterplanning for a regeneration of this historic park and proposals to revamp the athletics complex.
London Marshes
Thames Gateway’s flagship wild space project bringing public access to the marshes either side of the Thames.

A new network of bus ways improving public transport in the eastern areas of London Thames Gateway.

Development Projects
Offley Works
Design for six selected young practices to produce a mixed use, high density scheme on this backland site in Kennington.
St Andrews Hospital Bow
Redevelopment of the old hospital site to produce a mixture of private and affordable housing. Developers are Barratts and Allies and Morrison as lead architects.
Gallions zero carbon development
A zero carbon housing development with BioRegional Quintain as preferred developer and Feilden Clegg Bradley as architects.
Thames Barrier park-east – housing development
Development with Barratts and Sergison Bates to provide high density housing on this important riverside site.
Parliament Square
Proposals to pedestrianise the southern areas of the square and to connect the Abbey to the green space which is presently cut off by the gyratory.
Dalston Junction
A new public space in the heart of Dalston connected to improvements in the East London line and a major new development with Barratts.
Woolwich Arsenal
A major residential development in collaboration with Berkeley Homes.
Lewisham Gateway
Restructuring of the roads and public spaces in Lewisham and substantial mixed-use development.
Beam Reach
A collection of industrial developments in the London Riverside area.
Barking Riverside
A sustainable development by Barking Riverside Ltd of 10,000 homes for 26,000 people that will connect Barking to the river.

The 100 Public Spaces Programme
Launched in 2002, this initiative aims to create or upgrade 100 public spaces in London to demonstrate the importance of the public realm to Londoners’ social, economic and environmental well-being. Key projects include:
Brixton Central Square
Proposals for a new square, designed by Gross Max between Coldharbour Lane and Effra Road.
Victoria Embankment Gardens
Proposals for a linear park designed by Richard MacCormac to improve the riverside walk between Westminster and Blackfriars Bridge which will reconnect Central London with the Thames.
Euston underpass
Proposals from Terry Farrell to redesign the Euston underpass and create a new public space with new pedestrian routes between West Euston and Central London.
Barking town centre
Proposals for a new square in Barking town centre designed by MUF and Allford, Hall, Monaghan and Morris.
Potters Fields
New park, opened in May, designed by Gross Max which forms a major new public space on the South Bank route between Tower Bridge and the London Eye.
Gillett Square
A new public space designed by Hawkins Brown and Whitelaw Turkington opened off Kingsland High Street, in November 2006.
Wembley
A new public space by Marks Barfield opened in May 2007.
Acton town square
A new public space designed by East Architects opened in December 2006. This will also create a new street market.
Tottenham Hale
A comprehensive redesign of the Tottenham Hale interchange to create a new town centre and transport interchange.
Exhibition Road
A pedestrianisation of the street designed by Dixon Jones to create a new public space between the museums and South Kensington.
Coulsdon town centre
Improvements to Coulsdon town centre, designed by Matrix and Burns and Nice, and more generous public spaces as a result of a Transport for London scheme to build a relief road.
Heathway to the Thames
Series of connected public spaces from Dagenham Heathway, crossing the A13 and the C2c and CTRL lines at Dagenham Dock , through Chequers Lane (a scheme by Florian Beigel already completed), and ending up at a public platform at the Thames.
