Works have begun on Bankside’s ambitious new open space. The scheme, delivered by Southwark Council with the Bankside Urban Forest partnership (including Design for London, Better Bankside, Tate, Crossriver Partnership and the Architecture Foundation) was identified in the Bankside Urban Forest vision published in 2007. Flat Iron Square, designed by Witherford Watson Mann Architects with Pax Engineering, will be overhauled with new surfacing, creating a lively, multifunctional public space. Completion will be in March 2010.
