The unprecedented level of regeneration taking place in Woolwich is bringing major changes to the town centre. This will result in a major reconfiguration of the area, including thousands of new homes, new Council offices, a major new supermarket and a range of new retail and leisure facilities. Excellent public transport connections, including Docklands Light Railway (DLR) and a future Crossrail station, further enhance Woolwich's role as a regional transport hub and major centre for growth in the Thames Gateway.

 

Design for London has been involved in a number of significant development, transport and public space projects in the town centre including:

* design advice on the Royal Arsenal site and the new Crossrail station;

* together with the Greenwich Waterfront Regeneration Agency (GWRA) co-funding the A206 Plumstead Road corridor improvement study by Witherford Watson Mann Architects and Colin Buchanan Partners;

* working with the GWRA on the Woolwich Squares public space project;

* advice to Transport for London on development above the new DLR station;

* representation on the design review panel for the Tesco and London Borough of Greenwich owned Love Lane development site;

* advice to GLA Planning Decisions Unit on the Hare Street Triangle planning application.

 

Design for London's Heritage Advisor will also be compiling a Heritage Audit of Woolwich Town Centre in 2009.
