Tottenham Hale is an important development hub and transport interchange within the London-Stansted-Cambridge growth corridor. The area is currently dominated by a busy gyratory system. The London Development Agency's Land & Development team and Design for London are working with Transport for London and other partners to improve the public space and interchange facilities, giving greater priority to pedestrians.
The masterplan for Tottenham Hale proposes the redevelopment of the station, replacement of the gyratory with two-way traffic, and a network of high-quality streets and public spaces between Tottenham High Road and the Lea Valley Regional Park. These include a landscaped promenade along the western bank of the River Lea and a new square in front of the railway station.
Design for London helped initiate the urban centre masterplan which was produced by Urban Practitioners, Allies and Morrison, Alan Baxter Associates, Landolt Brown, and Colin Buchanan and Partners. This was later adopted by the London Borough of Haringey as a Supplementary Planning Document.
Design for London has been responsible for design scoping, briefing and procurement, and have provided a design overview and coordination role.
Landolt Brown, KCAP architects and Latz and Partners have recently been appointed by the LDA to carry out more detailed master planning work for a planned new station square, enhanced bus interchange and adjacent Ashley Road sites.
