Sustainability, and in particular environmental sustainability, is central to the Mayor's vision for London. Design for London is committed to promoting sustainable design in its projects.

Design for London has advised on London Plan policies on climate change, sustainable design and construction, and renewable energy and is helping to prepare associated supplementary planning guidance.

We are working with the Mayor and the London Development Agency (LDA) to develop a flagship low carbon scheme on a very tough site in the Royal Albert Basin. Lessons learned here will be transferred across the capital.

London's new policy on living roofs and the delivery of the East London Green Grid will help to provide the landscape infrastructure London needs to adapt to the environmental challenges ahead, particularly to address the risks of flooding and overheating in the years to come. Our work on design for waste will help London achieve its 85% self-sufficiency target for managing waste by 2020.
