Stratford is currently undergoing enormous and unprecedented change which offers significant challenges for the local government but also significant opportunities through the emergence of Stratford as a new metropolitan centre for London and the eastward expansion of London’s centre. Stratford Metropolitan Masterplan is a piece of work commissioned by the London Borough of Newham to address the medium and long term aspirations for the Stratford Area. Urban Initiatives are developing the proposals and the initial report has been approved by cabinet at the London Borough of Newham at the end of 2010.

Design for London’s Olympic Legacy team have been working with local stakeholders to help steer the Masterplan and ensure that it is well integrated with other initiatives. The masterplan specifically looks to secure the benefits of Stratford City and the Olympic Park for residents and to link together the new areas and integrate them seamlessly with existing and changing neighbourhoods. The key areas that are included in the study are Stratford Old Town, the Carpenters Neighbourhood, Chobham Farm and Sugarhouse Lane. Design for London have been closely involved in the development of the strategy and will continue to offer support through the delivery phases.
