Gillett Square in Dalston opened in November 2006. The new square was designed by Hawkins\Brown Architects and Whitelaw Turkington Landscape Architects to re-vitalise arts, culture and employment around a vibrant community space.

The square is brought to life by new buildings and activities including the Vortex Jazz Bar, the Dalston Culture House, retail pods and the award winning business start-up units.

Design for London has been involved throughout project, from design to delivery, assisting with project briefing, designer selection and continual design review. We played a major role in developing the delivery strategy and led on bids to central government to fund the space. We remain actively involved in the Gillett Square Partnership, which oversees the ongoing activities in relation to management of the square and its further development.
