Cutty Sark Gardens lie in the Maritime Greenwich World Heritage Site, one of London’s highest profile public ‘squares’ and home to the only top 20 London visitor location in East London. The Gardens are the setting for the Cutty Sark ship which is based in a dry dock in its centre.
OKRA landscape architects have been commissioned by Greenwich Council to develop a public realm design of Cutty Sark Gardens as a result of their winning entry to an international design competition. Greenwich Council are planning an implementation programme tied to the Olympics in 2012 and after as a legacy scheme. The challenge is to create a more attractive place that encourages people to stay longer and animate the site better.
Cutty Sark Gardens is part of the Mayor's Great Spaces Initiative which supports the excellent design and delivery of public realm projects across London.
