London's largest bus depot has been created following the amalgamation of two of the three bus depots relocated from the Olympic Park site. The depot is located on the 'Parcelforce' site, owned by the London Development Agency (LDA).
Pringle Richards Sharratt was selected to design the depot following a tender process using Transport for London's pre-approved consultant panel. Design for London was involved in the selection of the designers and has an ongoing role as part of the client team.
The bus depot helps create an urban street edge at its northern boundary, anticipating future mixed use development to the north, and improves access to the station for users of the depot and its training facility. The integration of the building within the wider area and its landscape was developed in collaboration with consultants Sergison Bates Architects. The depot building will have a green roof, and the site will accommodate a wind turbine.
The scheme received planning permission in 2007 and is currently under construction.
