This project focuses on a highly significant and rapidly changing area of the Lower Lea Valley located between Canary Wharf and the Olympic Site in east London. The plan seeks to improve connections between existing communities, unlock development capacity and create community benefits.

The study area is bordered by the Limehouse cut to the north, East India Dock Road to the south, Chrisp Street to the west and the River Lea to the east. It contains a fragmented mix of residential and industrial land further divided by the A12, A13 and Docklands Light Railway.

A consortium led by Meadowcroft Griffin Architects prepared a plan which presents a new vision for the area to help guide private and public sector investment and maximise the benefits of change for local people. The study was completed in early 2009.

Design for London's role has included brief writing, project team selection and procurement, and advising on the design aspects of the study as part of the client team.

Partners: London Thames Gateway Development Corporation, London Borough of Tower Hamlets and Poplar Harca
