Norwood Road is a busy high street with high pedestrian footfall and a steady traffic flow. Its current layout has resulted in problems associated with on street parking and congestion, which effectively impact upon access and circulation through the town centre.

The overarching vision for West Norwood is to create a vibrant and attractive town centre and more positive sense of place, which enhances the area’s character and distinctness, whilst improving the pedestrian environment, street scene and safety. As such, one of the key projects highlighted by the masterplan focuses on improvements to Norwood’s road and public realm.

London Borough of Lambeth together with Design for London is in the process of appointing consultants to develop a road and public realm improvement scheme in the heart of West Norwood. The project is part of The Mayor's Great Spaces Initiative which aims to revitalise the capital's unique public spaces.
