The Northern Olympic Fringe masterplan is focused on the areas around the existing town centres of Leyton and Maryland.

The masterplan is seeking to address the following issues:

* Strengthening existing town centres at Leyton and Maryland and establishing their role in relation to the Olympic Legacy and Stratford City developments

* Ensuring that existing communities benefit fully in socio-economic terms from the investment in the Olympic site and Stratford City

* Overcoming the massive physical severance caused by road and rail corridors

A team led by Urban Practitioners and Maxwan was commissioned in summer 2008, and the masterplan will be completed by May 2009.

Design for London is a member of the client team and has been providing design input to the project from initial project scoping and commissioning the masterplan to facilitating coordination with surrounding masterplans and providing design review.
